Trial Run Class

Hello!! We had a trial run of the studio on Saturday to test out the new workspace and the delivery of the “Initial Class”.  It was a super day that coincided with other town events meaning lots of unplanned footfall of visitors in the studio, but great nonetheless. It was great to have the door open and to meet so many of the passing townspeople all eager to see what Attic Batik is about!

On the day, we greeted 6 willing students who were happy to be our trial guests for the “Initial Class”, each choosing a letter of their choice to wax on to a cotton panel. In a calm and relaxed atmosphere we talked about everything from pattern and design transfer, wax application and wax removal, the technique of making and layering dyes, in amongst idly gossiping about TV shows such as ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘The Great British Bake-off’!

We had adequate time to delve in to the deep fundamentals of the batik process, and discover individual ways of working through testing the different tools and approaches. Sharing lunch-time together and keeping the tea and coffee pot going ensured each student was sufficiently fuelled to create their own unique masterpiece. Each special batik was framed and so was ready to be enjoyed immediately or gifted once taken home.

Most of my guests were first timers and worked wonders with this often unpredictable free flowing medium. And I’m pleased to hear………..they all want to come back!  🙂
