Hello!! We had a trial run of the studio on Saturday to test out the work space and the delivery of the “Initial Class”. It was a super day that unbeknown to me coincided with the Belper Halloween Pumpkin Trail event. It was great to have the door open and meet so many of the passing townspeople all eager to see what Attic Batik is about, though some of you looked pretty scary to be honest!
There were 6 willing students happy to be our trial guests for the “Initial Class” choosing a letter of their choice to wax on to a mercerised cotton panel. In a calm and relaxed atmosphere we talked everything from wax application, layering dyes, and wax removal through to The Apprentice and The Great British Bake-off!
We had adequate time to delve in to the fundamentals of the batik process, discovering individual ways of working through testing different tools and approaches. Sharing lunch together and keeping the tea and coffee pot on ensured each student was sufficiently fuelled to create their own unique masterpiece. Each prized batik was framed and so was ready to be enjoyed immediately or gifted once taken home.
Most of them were first timers and worked wonders with this liquid free flowing medium. And I’m pleased to hear………..they want to come back! 🙂
