I had a great time this morning talking about batik and quickly tutoring presenter Rachel New in this wonderful art, live on BBC Radio Derby! An unusually early morning (for a night owl like me) was well rewarded talking the wonderfully jovial Rachel and her listeners through some of the batik process. It was well worth getting up for and I thoroughly enjoyed my first time in a radio station.
Big thanks to Hannah Jones and Kelly Bowen from the production team, Rachel for having me on her program and everyone at BBC Radio Derby for their lovely welcome.

It was a privilege to be featured in the November edition of The Batik Guild Magazine. The article talks about a workshop I ran for a school in Glossop earlier in the year and about our new studio space at Attic Batik where I now have a permanent home for running classes. I am also available for further school bookings!
Hello!! We had a trial run of the studio on Saturday to test out the work space and the delivery of the “Initial Class”. It was a super day that unbeknown to me coincided with the Belper Halloween Pumpkin Trail event. It was great to have the door open and meet so many of the passing townspeople all eager to see what Attic Batik is about, though some of you looked pretty scary to be honest!
After a very long week and and a mad dash to get everything ready for our first trial batik class on Saturday, the studio is now ready! It’s both beautiful and functional and I’m looking forward to spending many wonderful hours in here batiking with everybody. I’m sure the place will never look so clean again so I am posting these photos for posterity. 😁
I was very exited to collect the keys late last week to the newly refurbished room which is now home to Attic Batik in the heart of Belper. It’s been great to be part of the planning for the room(s) and seeing the building undergo the transformation from the old and run down White Swan public house to probably some of the nicest workspaces in town! 🙂
Having told a number of people I’m running batik classes, I am often asked “So, what is batik?”. This article aims to explain the process step-by-step using a project I will be teaching to beginners to decorate their initial.
